Overview
I am an experienced project manager and developer of SQL database systems for direct marketing, syndicate insurance, office and factory information systems; successfully taking the projects from requirement specification through to client acceptance. As an experienced teacher I have developed computer based training modules using multimedia. I have also been customer and technical support manager for UNIX, NT, Windows, Novell and DOS systems and IT Development Manager.
I am imaginative, creative, with a flair for the solution of complex technical problems and a clear orientation towards ideas, concepts and intellectual pursuits generally. I am independent, ready to make decisions and take the initiative. I am highly motivated but also sensitive, understanding and have a willingness to help others.

Employment Experience
I have specified and developed:-
· intelligent network tools to aid in the requirement capture and design of telecommunications networks,
· in collaboration with marketing developed control applications for spectrophotometers,
· menu interfaces for Quality Analysis Systems, scientific, mathematical and statistical calculators,
· word processors, terminal and Prestel emulators,
· room booking system for meetings and conferences,
· rapid addressing system,
· mobile phone bill statistics and proportional payments by department,
· herd stock control for pedigree stock,
· medical diagnose entry and report writing,
· student registry and accountancy reporting,
· stock control and invoicing,
· syndicate re-insurance data modelling and aggregation risk analysis and report,
· converting call centre applications to international language use
· adding OO features to CAD and RAD tools for production design applications
· reporting suite to Sun and Tempo SQL databases, Centralised billing and key client tracking
· I advised on and developed computer-aided language learning applications for the London School of English using computer controlled audio cassette recorders.
· I have written, in TenCORE, a module on Finance for Non-Financial Managers and converted a suite of generic interactive video courses from PAL to NTSC.
· I improved the British Telecom Operator Service System training courses, reducing training costs. Written in Turbo Pascal, CD-ROM was used for audio.
· I wrote and marketed a typing tutor program.
· For Applied Interactive as part of team developed a Computer Based Training authoring system using Visual Basic 5 (Active X documents, OLE and Active X controls) and driven by data stored in Access 97 database.
· Collated, captured, written, scanned, photographed and developed the 3.2Gb of information published at www.submin.com and it’s CD-ROM version with over 36,000 photographs.
· I set up customer service and support on the R140 UNIX for Acorn, establishing uucp email and report links to Granada Microcare.
· I was manager for the customer hotline at IIS Ltd.
· In my own company I offered support and products for the NewBrain that followed from answering technical enquiries for Grundy Business Systems.
· I have also been manager of UNIX and Novell systems and have installed PCs (using PC-NFS, TCP/IP) onto a Sun network, linked in a Novell server and enabled PCs access to both.
· At BT I installed and supported a NT and Windows 95 workstations and at Anglian Water I ran the support desk and remote update services for 300 PCs.
· At the Corporate Services Group, I was IT Development Manager leading a team of 13 programmers. I introduced documentation and coding standards for the full development cycle of projects and established training schedules for the staff. Liaising with internal clients, as business analyst, I produced proposals for new projects and trained development staff to do the same. These included contact management systems, OCR systems and data backup. I managed the day to day running and requests for enhancements, reports and maintenance of the payroll system. The role also involved a hands on approach to programming as well as analysis and enhancements for current projects in VB5 SQL and Access 97 involving asset management and requests for change tracking systems.
· I have implemented direct marketing and contact management systems for Bull and Hutchison using Brock and Informix SQL and for British Telecom using Visual Basic, Attachmate and Access. I included campaign targeting, guided teleprospecting, direct mail, appointment booking, product and contact profiles. The systems rapidly gained the enthusiasm of users for its extensive features, minimal training, quality of data and availability. Using Visual Basic, DDE and Attachmate I enhanced a system to profile the customer database for use in telemarketing.
· As part of a team I developed, in Clipper, a Planned Maintenance Management System including the relational database, added utilities, improved performance and was project manager of the (dGE) graphical sub-system.
· I designed and implemented quality data reporting, creating a unified QA logging system.
· I researched into down streaming agent technology with DIAS (CORBA) to legacy systems using VB and NeXTSTEP and Objective C.
· I have advised clients on the selection of multimedia hardware, suitable local area networks, office configurations and the market requirement survey for a hand-held Z-system computer.
· I am author of comparison and selection criteria reports on DOS and UNIX databases, GUI tools for SQL Client/Servers and advised upon the design of the Sales Activity Manager to run on pen-based portables.
· I have written users' notes and manuals for naive users, managers and system programmers including systems written over a number of years by an assortment of programmers.
· I have instigated program documentation standards.
· I have had articles and letters published in Personal Computer World, Micro Computer Mart and other computer, hi-fi and photographic magazines.
· I ran the NewBrain User Group (Nov 83-Sep 88) and was editor of the bi-monthly newsletters.
· I taught mathematics to all abilities ranges, up to GCE, achieving scale 2 promotion in 1978. Between 1986 and 1988 I was part-time teacher, covering mathematics, physics, chemistry and GCSE Computer Studies. I also lectured B/TEC, GCSE & GVP courses in mathematics & Information Technology at the Cambridge Further Education College.
